WASHINGTON (AP) – Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday that he has cancelled all US visas South Sudan Passport owners are accusing governments of “using the United States.”
“All countries must accept the return of their citizens in a timely manner when other countries, including the United States, try to eliminate them,” Rubio said in a statement, adding that “the transitional government in South Sudan has failed to fully respect this principle.”
In addition to canceling the visa, Rubio said the US would “prevent further issuance to prevent South Sudan passport holders from entering the US.”
South Sudan's political landscape is fragile, and recent violence between government forces and armed opposition groups has deprived tensions.
