The third edition of The Travel, Hospitality & Tourism Education Summit, was officially opened on April 7th at the Murungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia. The summit, which will be held until April 9, 2025, is being held jointly by Zambia Tourism Hospitality Research (ZithS) and the United Nations Institute of Tourism. Under the theme of “Understanding the gap between knowledge and skills in trade in Africa's services industry,” the event seeks to align tourism education with labor demand under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) framework.
The summit brings together stakeholders from African policymakers, academic institutions, development partners and tourism sectors to explore strategies for workforce development in tourism services. Key sessions include presentations on the UN Tourism Education Guidelines and high-level discussions on tourism skills development, industry collaboration and curriculum reform. With participation from representatives from UN Tourism Authority, African Government and institutions such as the EHL Hospitality Business School and the University of Utari Kenya, the event highlights Zambia's focus on tourism as a pillar of economic growth under the 8th National Development Plan.
