The volatile YouTuber turned his table to a Welsh city labelled the worst seaside resort in the UK and found charm in an unexpected place. Ed Chapman is a travel-savvy blogger who shares adventures on his YouTube channel of the same name and recently took on Bangor. Has the city been hurt by a savage label that, according to which, is the worst seaside resort? investigation.
Which of January is 4,744? Panelists gave North Wales an enviable score of just 42%, with descriptors like “drab” and “rundown” thrown into the mix, as reported by the BBC.
But amidst harsh criticism, research responders were unable to deny Bangor's cultural appeal, nodding to the cathedral and picturesque views of the Menai Strait. Despite praise for these attributes, Bangor's reputation remains a hit, leading to a disappointing response from local officials, Wales reports online.
Unfastened with hearsay, Ed immerses himself in Bangor's life for two days, revealing the surprising truth. Proclaiming his findings, Ed retorted: “All the locals, including taxi drivers, are really friendly. Very friendly people are a good start to where they go, whether it's a dump or not.”
But it was Bangor's famous Garspear that really captured Ed's admiration. In a homage to its singular elegance, he quickly praised the iconic structure as “beautiful” and sorted much more “traditionally seaside y”.
As he approached the picturesque 19th century pier, Ed said:
Researching the spread of water from the pier, he continued to praise the view as “impressive” and “glory” before calling the pier “nice.”
As he proceeded to the video, his appreciation extended to his local university. He described it as “a lovely” building and “a very kind of Hogwarts.”
It is clear that Bangor left a positive impression on YouTubers. Collecting the visits in the video, he revealed his “very surprised” reaction to coastal cities, contradicting previous opinions by considering Bangor as a “very underrated” gem that rather than Britain's worst seaside resort.
In response to previous unfair reviews this year, Bangor City Council issued a statement saying: “It's a shame to see Bangor City be named as one of the worst seaside towns in the UK. Such rankings often fail to capture the full picture and capture the unique charm that makes Bangor City special.”
Among other well-known features highlighted by the Council were the Story Gallery and Museum, the Pontio Arts Centre and the Cathedral of Satdenior.
Furthermore, within the same county there is Port Mayrion, which scored 83% as the top seaside town of Wales, but the nearby town of Landodno certainly did well at 78%.
