Starting April 1, 2025, Namibia will cancel visa-free entries for citizens of more than 30 countries, including the US, the UK and several European countries. The decision, first approved by the Namibian Cabinet in July 2024, is largely due to the lack of mutual visa arrangements for Namibian passport holders. Affected travelers must apply for a visa online or obtain a traveler obtained upon arrival.
The move shows a major policy change as countries like Germany, such as Lamibia's largest tourist market, previously benefited from visa-free access. The local tourism industry has raised concerns about the potential impact on visitor numbers, particularly from long-distance markets. The US Embassy advises travelers to apply in advance via the Namibia online visa portal. The change came shortly after President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah took office, following the UK's similar visa tightening in 2023.
