Lithuanian prosecutors are about to question pilots of Boeing 737-400 cargo ships. This was crashed last year with his approach to Vilnius.
The Swiftair aircraft went below runway 19 while inbound from Leipzig on November 25th.
The Lithuanian prosecutor's office says the accident “probably” stems from a “activated hydraulic system” that controls the deployment of the flap.
It says that the information currently available points to “human errors” as the cause of the crash. Of the four staff members on the aircraft, one did not survive.
The office is conducting a pre-trial investigation into crash failure.
It says the focus on hydraulic systems will follow scene investigations, flight data analysis and cockpit voice recorder information, and interviews.
“Other versions of the accident were countered by data obtained during the investigation,” the prosecutor's office adds.
He said he submitted a request to Spanish authorities to carry out “necessary investigative actions,” including questioning pilots on aircraft undergoing treatment in Spain.
The request was made through a European investigation order. This allows a judicial representative in one European Union to seek assistance from another law enforcement agency in gathering evidence for criminal investigations.
“The decision was made to thoroughly investigate the situation,” the office says.
Lithuania's pre-trial investigation is based on various articles in the country's criminal law, including allegations of inappropriate maintenance of aircraft, negligence that causes death or serious injury due to violations of safety regulations, and destruction of property.
