Korea Airlines has confirmed orders for up to 50 Boeing Widebody Jets that it provisionally signed at the 2024 Farnborough Air Show.
Boeing revealed that he had signed contracts on 20 777-9 and 20 787-10 on March 26th.
After Boeing and South Korean Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Widebody Orders in July, Korean Airlines executives announced last week that the airline would “develop further” and work to formalise the agreement.
Currently, commitments are reflected in Boeing's orders and delivery logs.
Korean Airlines previously said that delivery of the latest generation wide body is expected to begin in 2028.
Boeing plans to complete delivery of the 777X and 787 by 2033.
The incoming jet is part of a deal worth nearly $33 billion, bolstering the 777-9, which includes eight spare GE aerospace GE9X engine contracts and two more options.
Korean Airlines is pursuing a plan to “transform into one of the world's largest airlines” as it accelerates its fleet update and merges with fellow Korean airlines Asiana Airlines.
However, corporate executives have cited delays in aircraft delivery as one of the airline's biggest challenges, keeping the South Korean Airbus A380S and avoiding the Boeing 747 flying longer than planned.
