In this 40th anniversary year, City Lodge Hotel is proud to announce its achievement of broad Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) level 1 status as of March 4, 2025. This exciting development – The group's first level 1 achievement was the result of a sincere commitment to change, diversity and inclusion (TDI).
City Lodge Hotels scored a total of 92.95 points, split into key metrics as follows:
Enterprise Ownership: 23.34 Points Management Control: 14.65 Points Skill Development: 12.05 Points Enterprise and Supplier Development: 34.91 Points Socioeconomic Development: 8.00 Points
A deeper dive into these results, the group achieved:
Black ownership: 26.52% Black women ownership: 12.13% Black new entrants: 6.67% Black designated group: 5.31% Black youth: 0.53% Black people with disabilities: 0.45% Black unemployed: 0.06% Black people living in rural areas: 0.09% participated in the initiative, achieving a 1.5 x 1.5 x achievement target and 5% absorption production awareness.
In its October 2024 integrated report, City Lodge Hotel reflects its continued growth and dedication to improvement. “Since the group's founding, we have been enthusiastically ensuring wage gaps based on race, gender or age. The Executive Committee is a woman and someone we are actively working to increase.”
City Lodge Hotels CEO Andrew Weiger praised the TDI Committee for their work, saying, “A member of Exa and Senior Management, the TDI Committee will convene every six weeks to oversee the five pillars of change.
He said, “Diversity training is designed to complement the principles and values that have been launched by HR and supported by the TDI Committee. We strive to coordinate staff demographics and the broader population of the country with an emphasis on enabling organic transformation.”
“This is a proud moment for all of us as achieving B-Bbee Level 1 is a collective milestone that embodies the core value and dedication of our hardworking team with 58 hotels and four hotel brands (Coteyard Hotel, City Lodge Hotel, Town Lodge, and Road Lodge).
